Today, I learned that all five GP Consortia serving patients in the Wigan Borough have achieved ‘pathfinder’ status.
It makes no sense to scrap one primary care trust serving all the people of the borough and replace it with five separate consortia, which will lead to precious NHS resources being wasted on duplication.
My greatest fear is that we will see the emergence of a postcode lottery in our borough where each consortia take different decisions on the services they commission.
The government promised no top down reorganisation of the NHS, but this is the biggest betrayal of all their broken promises.
Labour will continue to fight this needless reorganisation every step of the way.
